Hello, and welcome to Cross Cultural Encounters. I'm Susan Nadathur -- writer, dreamer, workshop leader, wife and mother. I've lived in New England, Spain, California, Mexico, and lots of places in between. I married a South Indian, moved with him to the Caribbean, raised a daughter on the island of Puerto Rico, and lived among the Gypsies in southern Spain. Sounds exciting, right?
Well, my life has not been dull, that's for sure. But it hasn't been easy either. I guess that's why I finally became a writer. My head is full of the stories that have shaped my life. Some of them are sad. Others are ridiculous. Some are scary, and others kind of funny. They run the gamut of human experiences. But one thread that is woven into all of them is my passion for people. My life has been enriched because of all the great people I've met over the years -- people from so many different countries, cultures, and life experiences.
I invite you to explore my world through the pages of this website. You'll find a little more information about me, my workshops, publications, works-in-progress, and maybe even a little bit about my hopes and dreams. Cross cultural understanding is a gift we can share with each other. If you feel like sharing a little bit of yours, or want more information on my programs and presentations, please feel free to contact me. I'd love to hear from you and share a moment. And if you're a fellow lover of literature or story teller, I invite you into my fictional world. Dante's story is about a young man who is on the wrong path -- until a blow to the head sets him right. It's a young adult urban fanstasy set in Puerto Rico and flavored with rum, reggaeton, and good old fashioned rock and roll. Diego's story is about a young Spanish Gypsy who is on the right path -- until a tragedy derails him and spirals him into darkness. It's a mainstream novel set in Seville and saturated with the scents of orange blossom, olive oil, and incense. Diego's story brings to life the enigmatic mystery of Gypsy Spain.
Oh, and by the way, that's me standing in between my Spanish Gypsy friends Pastor Pepe and his wife Pura. They were a blessing in my life when I spent several weeks in Seville observing their lives and researching their culture. Lots of what I learned from Pepe, Pura, and all the families who belonged to Pepe's church, Dios Con Nosotros, are found within the pages of Diego's story. And if you've ever wondered what it's like to live like the Gypsies, I invite you to join me on an incredible odyssey. I'd like to take you back to Gypsy Spain with me. Are you ready to go? If so, follow me on my blog: The Gypsy Way of Life.
Thanks for the visit. God bless.
